National Commercial Bank Jamaica Limited (NCB) walked off with the Manchester Chamber of Commerce award for Banking and Finance during an elegantly appointed awards ceremony and banquet held at the Golf View Hotel in Mandeville, making this the fourth such award received by the Bank for 2007.
Only weeks before, the award-winning NCB had copped the coveted title of Best Bank of the Year for 2007 from LatinFinance, based on a plan implemented by the Bank to stimulate its growth throughout the Caribbean.
NCB was nominated by the Chamber in the categories: Banking and Finance, and Community Service, and won the former based on the strength of its balance sheet over the year 2007, as well as other criteria which mirrored those set by LatinFinance including adhering to international standards for best practices and giving back to the society.
“These recognitions are in tandem with NCB’s commitment to nation building as reflected in our slogan ’Building a Better Jamaica’, and as demonstrated by the opportunities provided through the N.C.B. Foundation, starting at the individual level.,” Senior Assistant General Manager of NCB’s Group Marketing and Communication Division, Mrs. Sheree Martin said. She also stressed that, “Winning this award also reinforces and validates NCB’s confidence in the importance of investing responsibly and within an appropriate framework that will provide sustainable benefits for each and everyone.”
The Manchester Chamber of Commerce, which dates back to the 1960s, is currently focused on “revitalizing and resuscitating” its membership and activities, and as such has revived the awards to recognize business leaders for their contributions in a number of categories. Mr. Winston Lawson, President of the Chamber noted that “We have become more active as a Chamber of Commerce in serving the communities and businesses throughout Manchester, and NCB has been tremendously supportive in this venture.”
The National Commercial Bank in its capacity as a “Silver Sponsor” of the Manchester Chamber’s banquet also presented the Manufacturing award to Jamaica Standard Products Co. Ltd, which operates in Williamsfield, Manchester.
