| Bernadette Barrow (right), Assistant General Manager- NCB Small and Medium Enterprises presents a Certificate of Participation to Ludlow Stewart, owner of Wedge Equipment and Supplies Limited. Mr. Stewart a long standing NCB customer was a participant in the NCB/HEART Trust NTA training workshop on Developing Entrepreneurial Skills: Simple Accounting and Business Management which was recently held at the HEART Trust/NTA School of Cosmetology. The course was aimed at filling some of the knowledge gaps in the SME sector identified by the bank. |
The National Commercial Bank Jamaica Limited(NCB) in association with the HEART Trust/NTA hosted a two day training workshop, between March 23-24, 2009 in Kingston, to educate employees of its Small and Medium (SME) business customers in the areas of Accounting Methods and Business Management.
The workshop featured participants from companies who were awardees in the 2008 NCB Nation Builder Awards, a programme which recognises the contribution of small and medium enterprises to national development. It highlights outstanding entrepreneurial performance, sound operational practices and emphasises the SME’s contribution to community development.
Bernadette Barrow, Assistant General Manager in charge of Small and Medium Enterprises at NCB, the nation’s largest commercial bank stated “The training workshop is the first in a series which will have islandwide reach. These sessions are being introduced to assist SMEs with closing skill gaps identified and strengthening the technical capacity within their businesses.” She went on to explain “As an organisation, NCB constantly seeks to understand and meet the needs of SMEs. As their Business Banking partner, we are committed to their success and to providing support to enhance their operations and create value for their businesses.”
The workshop was well received and participants commended NCB for the initiative. Ludlow Stewart, owner of Wedge Equipments and Supplies Limited stated “The training workshop provided my business with a yardstick to measure the effectiveness of our own practices and procedures, allowing us an opportunity to identify areas for development. We have since been inspired to resume our own training of staff as this workshop reminded us of the importance of encouraging the sharing of information.”
NCB has committed to conducting similar workshop across the island and will be working closely with the HEART Trust NTA to offer training in the relevant areas that have been identified as skills gaps in the SME sector.
